Strange irony that in Russian Fart means something like "good fortune" and in English...well...it's pretty much a misfortune for surrounding people! We say if someone's really unpopular..."he's as popular as a fart in a lift"! ;)

это потому что to fart, в переводе с английского, значит не что иначе, как "пукать", мягко говоря :)
