HELP!
Do me a favour? =)

I'm writing more about Russia these days - less on LJ (unfortunately)...but more about my secret plans later!

If you can think of any idioms, proverbs, or expressions which "say something" about the Russian way of life (and are still actually used!) please post them here. Thanks!!! =)

Topics to get started:

1) work
2) alcohol
3) friendship
4) attitude to money/material things
5) acceptance/avoidance of responsibility

etc....

Basically, anything you think reflects some kind of real Russian reality of feature of Russian behaviour/character...completely up to you.

про работу очень характерная пословица "работа не хуй, год простоит" :))))))))))

еще из той же серии - "чем дальше в лес, тем толще партизаны"

это скорее современные фразы, но все же...

еще че придумаю, напишу

а кому книжка-то? :)))

Now i'm just writing - i'll use some idiomatic expressions to help prove some of the points i make about features of the Russian way of life...attitudes to things mostly.

With the English, for instance, you can take expressions connected with "fairness" - this idea goes very deep in English culture to the point where we can't accept anything that's unfair (to us!)...like what happened after the England vs Portugal match when Ronaldo got Rooney sent off and then winked at the England bench. No one could accept that we'd lost "unfairly"...we lose all the time anyway - but that's normal...to lose unfairly was intolerable!!! ;) Ronaldo got the nickname "winker" in all the tabloid newspapers -
a play on the word "wanker" obviously. =)

Fair in English is an old word...used to mean "beautiful"...we can still say, for example, "fair hair" to mean "light"...light is a positive feature also associated with beauty etc. You can also say "fair weather" = good weather etc... Everyday English expressions with "fair" might be:

fair's fair
fair enough
fair play
to be fair
etc.

	interesting topic about Russians being different from other people...any more like this? eg. about how Russians do things differently, have their own way of doing things??? like anecdotes where you have 3 nationalities and the Russian always does something unexpected...
